Copacabana beach as the sun goes down - right behind this pic was the Rolling Stones ConcertSummer is over - as declared by a sign in the elevator and the clocks got rolled back today.  Strange for the summer to end on Feb 19th, given the days still reach a high of 95 Farenheit - but I guess the sun is starting to set quicker.

Copacabana Palace Hotel in RioThe day started once more with a visit to the pool and lunch.   There was a huge bloco party rolling down the street in front of our hotel - with hundreds of people and a samba band (fun).   We grabbed a cab to finally see the Christ statue on Corcovado hill.  We were getting increasingly more worried as we approached the south zone (zona sul), seeing the clouds above (it was clear in Barra at the hotel).  Once we arrived at the train station (and paying our $22US cab fare), we observed a TV screen which had a camera view of the top of Corcovado - it was basically completely white (clouds that is).  The ticket booth person (who spoke english :)), told us there was no reason to go up - you couldn't see anything!

We decided to try again in the morning before our flight - so we headed to Copacabana beach for dinner.   We walked around the beach and past the Copacabana Palace (where the Rolling Stones were staying we believe - as there were police, and appearances of waiting fans, photographers, tv crews, etc.).    Along the way, we stopped at a pharmacy and bought Diamox to assist us with our acclimation for the 19,500 ft Kilimanjaro climb.   We had read - and found it to be true - that we didn't need any prescription for many drugs (even though it said prescribed under prescription in portuguese on the label)!

A waiter brings by meat at the ChurrasqueriaFor dinner, we tried the traditional Brazilian Churrasqueria for only $12 each.  They brought out tons of meat - to chop tableside.  Lots of different cuts, fillets, roast beef, chicken, turkey, etc.  It was overwelming the amount of meat they brought out!  They also had a salad bar with sushi for Jaim (although she did have some chicken and turkey :)).

We caught a cab back to the hotel - and finished off our final wine and cheese (yes yes - the last 4 days have spoiled us!).  We agreed we're all rested up (although we have 2 days of flying ahead of us!).  We're off to Cape Town, South Africa via London!
