Unfortunately, the hotel last night was horrible. When anyone used any water, we heard a loud gushing noise behind our heads. When the person next door used the water at midnight, it was louder and just as annoying as the wind we encountered the night before! Frustrating, as we just wanted to sleep. At 4 am, we awoke to the room smelling like cigarette smoke - and at 5 am, the person next door was back to using the bathroom. To top it off, the "buffet" breakfast that they told us about the day before turned out to consist only of poundcake, corn flakes, and watery juice. Not what we were hoping for. :( At least Mario was able to negotiate $15 off our bill - more of a token than anything (total of $75 for the room at Hotel Glaciers).
We relaxed and worked on catching up on all the park pictures until it was time to check out at noon. We then gladly went to our new hotel and checked in, got upgraded to a sea view room that is very nice, clean, spacious and not noisy at all! We were so relieved to finally look forward to a good nights sleep. Since all of our clothes were dirty again, we dropped them off at a lavanderia, to be picked up later in the evening. We decided to make a second visit to our favorite wood fired pizza place for lunch and again were not disappointed (we tried 2 new pizzas and both were delicious)! A quick stop by the a tourist office, and we booked our bus trip back to Punta Arenas for tomorrow morning at 9:30am.
The rest of the day was filled with some much needed rest, and we let ourselves indulge on some Chilean wine, cheese and chocolate - a tasty treat and well deserved after roughing it the last few days :) We've really enjoyed our stay in Puerto Natales - it is a quaint little town full of eager backpackers and friendly people. In some ways, it does feel like we are at the remote end of the world, but life seems to be peaceful and more simple here. It's a little hard to imagine that this is their summer, and people are still walking around in their fleeces and hats - we were lucky today though with a lot of sun and spent part of the day in T-shirts.
Back at the hotel, we rested up and then went back out to pick up our laundry and have a last dinner here. Most of the food here is fresh seafood - last night I had the most delicious baked king crab served in a steaming bowl of butter and white wine sauce with melted cheese on top. There was so much crab (it must have been 2 lbs worth) that I couldn't even eat it all!
Right now its raining out our window, but we're trying to enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and glaciers across the bay, knowing that our next destinations for quite a while will all be very hot and humid!
