Welcome to Blue Ocean Studios
Around the World

Entry to the castle along the streets of EgerThere's only so many days of wine, cheese, rest, and sun that you can take - we just haven't reached it. :)    Well, we did walk into town to find Jaimie a book.  Unfortunately, everything is closed because it's Sunday.  But the beauty of the town made up for the lost book cause.  The central part of town was pedestrian only, with narrow cobble stone streets and restaurants popping out here and there.  We walked through the beautiful town square, with it's equally beautiful tall 19th century cathedral.  This cathedral is the second largest in Hungary, so we popped in for a view.

You could see the Eger castle from everywhere we walked, and when we walked by the entrance, we couldn't pass up the opportunity.    The castle was founded in 1009 by the first Christian king in Hungary, Steven I.  The grandness of the castle that we toured was mostly built in the 13th century.   We paid the $2pp entrance fee, and just walked along the walls and through the center.  It was more of a fun walk than a tour, so given our prescription for relaxation here, the walk fit in well.  As the fortress sits high on top of a hill, we had great views of all over the city and some of the vineyards just past the city.

"Cyclone" pastriesOn our walk, we passed one of a few pastry stores that were open, despite being Sunday.  They had some really cool shaped pastry's - cylinder shaped pretzel/donut fried dough covered in coconut, nuts, or cinnamon.  I had a cinnamon one and it was sweet :) !  It's amazing that all these countries have such a wide selection of interesting looking and great tasting pastries.  If I was entrepenurial, I'd open delightfully delectable pastry shops around the US (I'd call this one the cyclone) :).

We stopped in a restaurant for crepes - mine filled with curry chicken and vegetables, and Jaimie's with chilly sauce and chicken (although it was more like BBQ than chilly sauce - but whatever).

We stumbled upon this statue and building while walking through EgerWe walked back, and since the sun was shining perfectly, we went back to the pool chairs which we have been enjoying.  After 2 hours of sun, we went back to the 1st restaurant we started with here in Eger.   It was great again, I had turkey and Jaimie the same spinach dish from before.   We are enjoying Hungarian food a lot (lots of roasted turkey and chicken options on their menus).

After our hard day :), we rested back in the room, finished off our wine and cheese, and looked forward to a morning of sun, and then off to Budapest in the afternoon!
